Every year, the World Usability Congress board honors outstanding UX Professionals with the title: UX Experience Knight.

Experience Knights are recognized global leaders and UX visionaries who:

⚔ Network with the community of designers and UX specialists.
⚔ Participate in furthering UX education
⚔ Contribute to UX solutions with new ideas and research.
⚔ Promote the importance of UX solutions to new industries.
⚔ Interact with fellow associates of conferences.
⚔ Communicate the virtues of UX with clarity and conviction.
⚔ Live a deep bond to the WUC Family
Knight’s will be honored at the World Usability Congress every year in October.
You have to be proposed by a knight to come into a long list for new knights. Knight’s will
discuss and vote – depending on the requirements above, who will become an experience knight.

How did you get there?
I had great mentors and cheerleaders along the way. I feel very lucky and humble and want to give to others in return. I recognize we seldom “get there” alone, and that “there” changes. I’d like to help others realize this and move forward.

What are you fighting for?
Financial freedom, while carving out a very much needed area (stellar UX Research training) that I’m passionate about, during a time when UX’ers are nervous about the future. It’s a hard time to ask people to invest in themselves and trust that the field continues to grow and evolve. But it is growing and evolving, and I’m proud to help others succeed.

How did i get there:
very early on in the 90ies you had to forge alliances when working in software-ergonomics/Usability.. and this resulted in the understanding that a holistic Approach to human-centered design and Usability is essential. The emancipation of that field, the tearing down of Silos, the strategic approach… being very often the Ambassador / the initial Evangelist for UX, I had to push for this and educate the nature of the field, which is quite diverse.

What i am fighting for:
the professionalism of our field of work, sound education and the code of Conduct of UX Professionals!

What drives you?
I am driven by the resilience and determination of individuals who face adversity but still manage to find their way to success. Their stories motivate me to make a difference in any way I can and give back for the opportunities that I have had - be it leading a team, helping people with their careers or simply pushing the boundaries of what I do and my own limitations.

How did you get there
I have been blessed with incredible individuals who saw more potential in me than I could see in myself. They placed their trust in me by offering opportunities that felt very challenging at that point in time. Despite facing numerous setbacks and failures, I have continued to push forward and bettering my craft, learning valuable lessons along the way, growing in wisdom and experience reaching the point where I am today.

What are you fighting for ?
Still (hopefully not a surprise) fighting for integrated experiences. Having worked in large organizations I still see designers, product teams and executives failing to take a holistic view of important topics like ethical design, trust or even thinking systemically beyond the products or features that they own/are tasked with.
